Mayan Wisdom and Cosmovision have survived for thousands of years. It is still alive despite the attempts to destroy it since the Spanish conquest centuries ago and the terrible crimes against original peoples since then until now.
Mayan Elders have guarded this sacred wisdom as they have seen what happens when it falls into the wrong hands. And many others even have lost their lives in maintaining this wisdom alive. Some Aj Qij’ab’ (Mayan Wisdom Keepers, also called Daykeepers or Time Keepers) are still persecuted in the present for the wisdom they carry.
Mayan Elders have passed some of this ancient wisdom generation after generation. Another part, the Ancient Maya, left it in codices, carved structures, sculptures, and artifacts. Scholars work on decoding what the Maya left, mainly approaching it from the scientific, cultural, political, astrological, and artistic views. That is just a percentage of all that it is.
There is more than that, the spiritual wisdom that cannot be learned intellectually.
We cannot fully absorb Mayan Wisdom only through the logical mind. By learning to see beyond the unseen and feel beyond our five senses, we can really start assimilating this multidimensional wisdom and remember what has been forgotten or guarded.
Ancient knowledge is now more available for people than before because we are at a moment in which things are shifting for humanity. People are more drawn to the Mayan Cosmovision than before. It is an exciting thing, but it also has another side to consider.
As a big part of humanity lives in a “fast food” way of living and following trends, most people want things given to them as fast as possible, without diving deeply into them. Staying on the surface of the sacred is not connecting with its unlimited wisdom.
One part of the Mayan Cosmovision and Wisdom is the calendar system. I highlight that it is only one part. A calendar system means different calendars for different measurements and purposes that fit together, like the gears of a clock. There are calendars for the orbits of some planets, for agriculture, prophecies, and more. Some of these calendars are still in use, but not all of them.
In Guatemala, the count of the days has continued without interruption since the beginning. Please, note that there is a New Age Calendar called the Dreamspell or 13 Moons created in the 90s by the North American José Argüelles. It is a false Mayan Calendar.
Now, I will refer specifically to the wisdom of the energies called Nahuales in the Chol Q’ij Calendar of 260 days. This calendar is the most known Mayan Calendar and the most accessible to people. It is the one at the center of the gears.
This calendar helps us understand the relationship between the human and the entire cosmos and the energies that built the reality we are experiencing. It helps us reconnect with our unlimited essence and the essence in all. It can guide us personally and collectively. It has so many layers, more than we can understand right now.
This timeless wisdom cannot be fully integrated in a short time, in a workshop, by just reading about the Nahuales or reading books about the Mayan Calendars. That is just an introduction.
Diving into Mayan Wisdom is a path that may take a lifetime, as it has many layers. Those unfold in their own time, depending on our personal inner journey. There is wisdom in the natural cycles of life, and the Chol Q’ij helps us reconnect with these and respect them.
For a mental example, someone who learns to add, subtract, multiply, and divide is not a mathematician yet, right? That is just the beginning of understanding mathematics. It takes time, commitment, and self-discipline to achieve that. And yet, there will be only a few brilliant minds that will achieve great discoveries through mathematics.
Aj Qij’ab’ go through a period of learning and ceremonies with their teachers before being initiated. An Aj Q’ij is initiated to be able to perform fire ceremonies, give Mayan Readings, consultations, and cleanses, among other things that can be specific to the gifts they bring.
And even after our initiation, we don’t know everything about this wisdom. Our initiation is where our conscious path with the sacred energies starts. It is not the end of it. The initiation ceremony is seen as a marriage with our Nahual (birth energy). We begin to strengthen our relationship with our Nahual and the Sacred Energies. Cycle after cycle, they reveal themselves to us, layer by layer.
In each cycle, we learn something new, activate our unique codes and gifts, deepen our understanding of truths, heal something, discover the subtle language of energy, and more. The Sacred Energies continue initiating us in different ways to deepen our connection with them. It is up to us how deep we go in our path.
The Nahuales or Mayan Signs are not to define our personality on a superficial level, label people, or find totem animals. The Nahuales are alive. They guide us to go beyond these things, so we can remember who we are. They help us reconnect with the wisdom our souls have attained through their extensive journey and take us into an inner journey of transformation.
Walking this path is a great responsibility. It brings a lot of inner work, self-inquiry, and transformation, something not everyone is willing to do. Sometimes we also go through difficult tests or wake-up calls, facing our shadows.
That doesn’t mean that if you are not an initiated Aj Q’ij you cannot connect with the energy of the Nahuales or this ancient wisdom. What I want to express, dear reader, is that following this Sacred Calendar is a path of remembering, healing, reconnecting, evolving, and awakening. It is not a spiritual trend or something to take lightly.
As my teacher says, there are seven ways to see something. That is why you may hear or read different perspectives about a Nahual. That comes from the perspective of each Aj Q’ij, according to their experience, understanding, inner work, and lineage. It is not a “one size fits all” kind of thing.
This path calls for us to explore the different views, integrate them, and at some point, go beyond them.
If your heart resonates with this ancient wisdom and you want to connect with the Nahuales, you can start by learning about them and reading about the energy of each day written by an Aj Q’ij or a reliable source.
Use your discernment and follow your intuition. We leave specific work to the Aj Q’ijab and Mayan elders for many reasons. This ancient wisdom is sacred. It is important to honor and respect it and the Mayan Elders who guard it.
If you want to go deeper with the Nahuales, start creating a relationship with the energy of each day and let them guide you without making it mental. You can meditate with each Nahual so that it shows itself to you and allow yourself to observe how it starts manifesting into your reality through synchronicities, messages from nature, dreams, and more.
As you connect with the Nahuales, work on moving this wisdom to your heart center to feel it. Learn to feel and remember the language of energy instead of only staying with a mental meaning of things. This way, you will begin to experience these energies in yourself and integrate them.
And, if this feels to be your life path and you are willing to accept the responsibility of walking it, sharing your gifts and this sacred wisdom with others, I invite you to consult with a Mayan Elder about properly starting your journey of initiation. This path calls us or comes to us, it is not something to be pursued. A Mayan Elder will read the signs and synchronicities.
Whichever your path is, what unfolds for someone who dares to go deeper instead of only staying at the surface cannot be fully expressed with words and thoughts. It only can be experienced.

RELACIÓN SAGRADA CON LA SABIDURÍA DE LOS NAHUALES
La Sabiduría y Cosmovisión Maya ha sobrevivido por miles de años. Sigue viva a pesar de los intentos de destruirla desde la conquista española hace siglos y los terribles crímenes contra los pueblos originarios desde entonces hasta ahora.
L@s Ancian@s Mayas han custodiado esta sabiduría sagrada pues han visto lo que sucede cuando cae en manos equivocadas. Y much@s otr@s incluso han perdido la vida por mantener viva esta sabiduría. Algun@s Aj Qij’ab’ (Guías o Guardianes de la Sabiduría Maya) siguen siendo perseguid@s en el presente por la sabiduría que portan.
L@s Ancian@s Mayas han transmitido parte de esta sabiduría ancestral generación tras generación. Otra parte, los antiguos mayas, la dejaron en códices, estructuras talladas, esculturas y artefactos. L@s académic@s trabajan en descifrar lo que Los Mayas dejaron, principalmente abordándolo desde los puntos de vista científico, cultural, político, astrológico y artístico. Eso es sólo un porcentaje de todo lo que es.
Hay más que eso, la sabiduría espiritual que no se puede aprender intelectualmente.
No podemos absorber completamente la Sabiduría Maya sólo a través de la mente lógica. Aprendiendo a ver más allá de lo invisible y a sentir más allá de nuestros cinco sentidos, podemos realmente empezar a asimilar esta sabiduría multidimensional y recordar lo que ha sido olvidado o guardado.
El conocimiento antiguo está ahora más disponible para la gente que antes porque estamos en un momento en el que las cosas están cambiando para la humanidad. La gente se siente más atraída por la Cosmovisión Maya que antes. Es algo emocionante, pero también tiene otro lado a considered.
Como una gran parte de la humanidad vive en una forma de vida de “comida rápida” y sigue las tendencias, la mayoría de la gente quiere cosas que se les den lo más rápido posible, sin profundizar o sumergirse profundamente en ellas. Quedarse en la superficie de lo sagrado no es conectar con su sabiduría ilimitada.
Una parte de la Cosmovisión y Sabiduría Maya es el sistema calendárico. Subrayo que es sólo una parte. Un sistema calendárico significa diferentes calendarios para diferentes medidas y propósitos que encajan entre sí, como los engranajes de un reloj. Hay calendarios para las órbitas de algunos planetas, para la agricultura, las profecías y más. Algunos de estos calendarios siguen en uso, pero no todos.
En Guatemala, la cuenta de los días ha continuado sin interrupción desde el principio. Por favor, tener en cuenta que existe un Calendario de la Nueva Era llamado el Hechizo del Sueño o 13 Lunas creado en los años 90 por el norteamericano José Argüelles. Se trata de un falso Calendario Maya.
Ahora, me referiré específicamente a la sabiduría de las energías llamadas Nahuales en el Calendario Chol Q’ij de 260 días. Este calendario es el Calendario Maya más conocido y el más accesible a la gente. Es el que se encuentra en el centro de los engranajes, conectándolos.
Este calendario nos ayuda a entender la relación entre el ser humano y todo el cosmos y las energías que construyen la realidad que estamos viviendo. Nos ayuda a reconectar con nuestra esencia ilimitada y con la esencia en todo. Puede guiarnos personal y colectivamente. Tiene muchas capas, más de las que podemos comprender ahora mismo.
Esta sabiduría atemporal no se puede integrar completamente en poco tiempo, en un taller, sólo leyendo sobre los Nahuales o leyendo libros sobre los Calendarios Mayas. Eso es sólo una introducción.
Sumergirse en la Sabiduría Maya es un camino que puede llevar toda una vida, ya que tiene muchas capas. Éstas se despliegan a su propio tiempo, dependiendo de nuestro viaje interior personal. Hay sabiduría en los ciclos naturales de la vida, y el Chol Q’ij nos ayuda a reconectar con ellos y respetarlos.
Por poner un ejemplo mental, alguien que aprende a sumar, restar, multiplicar y dividir aún no es matemático, ¿verdad? Eso es sólo el principio de la comprensión de las matemáticas. Se necesita tiempo, compromiso y autodisciplina para lograrlo. Y, sin embargo, sólo habrá unas pocas mentes brillantes que logren grandes descubrimientos a través de las matemáticas.
L@s Aj Qij’ab’ pasan por un periodo de aprendizaje y ceremonias con sus maestr@s antes de ser iniciad@s. Un(a) Aj Q’ij es iniciad@ para poder realizar ceremonias de fuego, dar Lecturas Mayas o lecturas del Nahual, consultas y limpiezas, entre otras cosas que pueden ser específicas de los dones que trae cada un@.
E incluso después de nuestra iniciación, no lo sabemos todo sobre esta sabiduría. Nuestra iniciación es donde comienza nuestro camino consciente con las energías sagradas. No es el final. La ceremonia de iniciación se ve como un matrimonio con nuestro Nahual (energía de nacimiento). Comenzamos a fortalecer nuestra relación con nuestro Nahual y las Energías Sagradas. Ciclo tras ciclo, se nos revelan, capa por capa.
En cada ciclo, aprendemos algo nuevo, activamos nuestros códigos y dones únicos, profundizamos nuestra comprensión de las verdades, sanamos algo, descubrimos el lenguaje sutil de la energía y mucho más. Las Energías Sagradas continúan iniciándonos de diferentes maneras para profundizar nuestra conexión con ellas. Depende de nosotr@s que tanto profundicemos en nuestro camino.
Los Nahuales o Signos Mayas no son para definir nuestra personalidad a nivel superficial, etiquetar a las personas o encontrar animales tótem. Los Nahuales están vivos. Nos guían para ir más allá de estas cosas, para que podamos recordar quiénes somos. Nos ayudan a reconectar con la sabiduría que nuestras almas han alcanzado a través de su extenso viaje y nos llevan a un viaje interior de transformación.
Recorrer este camino es una gran responsabilidad. Conlleva mucho trabajo interior, autoindagación y transformación, algo que no todo el mundo está dispuesto a hacer. A veces también pasamos por pruebas difíciles o llamadas de atención, enfrentándonos a nuestras sombras.
Eso no significa que si no eres iniciad@ como Aj Q’ij no puedas conectarte con la energía de los Nahuales o con esta sabiduría ancestral. Lo que quiero expresar, querido lector, es que seguir este Calendario Sagrado es un camino de recordar, sanar, reconectar, evolucionar y despertar. No es una moda espiritual ni algo para tomar a la ligera.
Como dice mi maestro, hay siete maneras de ver algo. Por eso puedes oír o leer diferentes perspectivas sobre un Nahual. Eso viene de la perspectiva de cada Aj Q’ij, según su experiencia, comprensión, trabajo interior y linaje. No se trata de una “talla única”.
Este camino nos llama a explorar los diferentes puntos de vista, integrarlos y, en algún momento, ir más allá de éstos.
Si tu corazón resuena con esta sabiduría ancestral y quieres conectar con los Nahuales, puedes empezar por aprender sobre ellos y leer sobre la energía de cada día escrito por un(a) Aj Q’ij o una fuente fiable.
Usa tu discernimiento y sigue tu intuición. Dejamos trabajos específicos a l@s Aj Q’ijab y ancian@s o mayores Mayas por varias razones. Esta sabiduría ancestral es sagrada. Es importante honrarla y respetarla, así como a l@s Ancian@s Mayas que la custodian.
Si quieres profundizar con los Nahuales, empieza a crear una relación con la energía de cada día y deja que te guíen sin mentalizarte. Puedes meditar con cada Nahual para que se te muestre y permítete observar cómo comienza a manifestarse en tu realidad a través de sincronicidades, mensajes de la naturaleza, sueños y más.
A medida que conectas con los Nahuales, trabaja en trasladar esta sabiduría a tu centro del corazón para sentirla. Aprende a sentir y recordar el lenguaje de la energía en lugar de quedarte sólo con el significado mental de las cosas. De esta manera, comenzarás a experimentar estas energías en ti mism@ y a integrarlas.
